It used to be that most blankets and afghans were knit by hand. Now the hand knit afghan is a treasure that is very hard to find. These afghans have become gifts and decorations rather than functional pieces of fabric. It is important to know how to care for the knit afghan when you receive one so that you can treasure it for as long as possible and potentially even pass it on to the next generation. As this art becomes a thing of the past, treasuring those that have been made by hand becomes more and more important to both the individual and the society as a whole.

The knit afghan is a difficult construction. It is often made of cotton yarn, although any yarn like material can be used. It involves looping and stitching the yarn together in a variety of stitches that work together to form a blanket. The afghan is a small blanket. It is meant to be able to be draped over the shoulders of the wearer without interfering with the individual’s movements. It can also be worn over the person’s legs if their legs are chilled. This is not a blanket that will protect a person from the cold, but rather works to provide a little protection from a chilly evening. There are large gaps in the stitches and it is often designed with wide loops. This does not make a warm blanket.

The knit afghan is often given as a gift. It is frequently given as a wedding present, a baby shower gift or if the person is older, a birthday gift. These take a lot of time and planning to make and are not something that are given lightly. They are given to people who are deeply cared for and loved. They take hours of work to make and should be cared for with the same attention that the maker took to create the handmade knit afghan.

The best way to care for the knit afghan is to not let it get dirty. Do not let the pets climb on it, do not set it down on a dirty couch, and definitely do not let the children play with it. While the original afghans were used in a very heavy manner, at the time they were considered functional blankets rather than decorative pieces. Today’s afghans are more decorative than functional.

If the knit afghan does get dirty, and it will happen, proper cleaning is essential. The afghan cannot be placed in the washer and dryer like other pieces of fabric and other blankets. The yarn simply is not strong enough to handle that level of stress and abuse. It is essential that the yarn is not pulled or broken as the afghan will then will lose its shape or even unravel. Care must be taken when washing the afghan. Most people will suggest that the afghan is washed by hand and laid down to dry.

When washing the knit afghan by hand, use the lightest detergent possible. Not only will this be easier on your hands but it will also be softer on the afghan. Do not use any detergent with bleach. The bleach will remove the color from the afghan and damage the fibers that make up the yarn. This will cause the afghan to fray and the yarn to potentially break under stress. While washing the afghan, move it in a gentle up and down pattern, sticking strictly to the grain of the fabric and yarn.

Once the knit afghan is clean, do not hang it dry. If the knit afghan is hung to dry, the yarn will stretch and lose its shape. Do not place the afghan in the dryer as it will shrink unevenly and lose its shape. The dryer may also burn the yarn and cause a discoloration. Instead gently wring the afghan out and then spread it across a bed or table. This will allow the knit afghan to dry evenly and completely while still maintaining its shape.

Once the knit afghan is completely dry, it can be folded and returned to where it is normally kept. Do not fold and store a damp afghan as it will begin to rot. This rot is not reversible and will cause the afghan to be unusable and unattractive.

Color is not a huge concern when making a cable knit scarf. The color can be anything that a person wants to use when making the scarf. The only things to consider are the uses of the scarf again. In particular, who the scarf is made for should be taken into consideration. If the scarf is being made for someone who is unlikely to wear any cosmetics, the scarf can be any color. If the individual who is going to be using the scarf is known for heavier make-up, the scarf may be discolored or stained through its use. If this is the case, it is suggested that a person uses a grey or other base color that is not known for showing stains. While most people would assume that black is the best color, this is actually second worse with white leading it. The black scarf shows every speck of dirt, make-up and dry skin on it. A darker colored scarf will not help to keep a person warmer than a lighter colored scarf.

The material that the yarn is made of is vital for investigation. If the scarf is made from a cotton or wool, it can deform when washed. If the yarn is made from a fragile material, it will not hold up to being washed. Not washing the scarf is not an option considering the frequency of illness during winter and the risk of mold or mildew due to the moisture in the scarf. It is often best to use a man made material that is easy to wash and care for. The most common cable knit scarf material is nylon and fleece, although fleece can be difficult to work with. Acrylic is also a common yarn to use, although it can lack the warmth that most people look for in the cable knit scarves.

There are some features that the nylon yarn that people who make cable knit scarves like. The nylon yarn tends to be very easy for a person to use. This coupled with the softer material and the non-drying nature of the material helps to make the scarf a comfortable scarf to make. The large number of colors and patterns that can be dyed into the scarf helps to add personality to the cable knit scarf. In addition, nylon does not shrink and is generally easy to wash and care for, making it ideal for winter weather.

Not all yarn is created equal. There are times that the individual will need a specific yarn to complete the job and create the ideal knit item. One such time is when creating a cable knit scarf. If the yarn is too soft, the scarf can easily deform out of the shape that was created for it. If the yarn is too fuzzy, it can be impossible to tell if the scarf is cable knit. If the yarn is too stiff, it can be difficult to work with. If the yarn is too scratchy, it can dry out the skin of both the creator and the wearer. Using the right yarn is essential to creating the perfect cable knit scarf.
<!--
google_ad_client = "pub-0392623080281892";

When thinking about the right yarn needed to make the cable knit scarf, one must think about the function of the scarf. The scarf is designed, not as a fashion element, but rather as a functional piece of clothing. Cable knit scarves designed to assist the person with keeping warm in the cold weather. This is done by providing insulation to the bottom portion of the face and the whole of the neck from the wind and adverse weather conditions. Not only does the scarf function as a physical barrier, but it also traps air and keeps a person warm with that air.

Knowing that the cable knit scarf has a function can help to make it easier for a person to visualize the yarn that is needed to create this scarf. The yarn will need to be a thicker gauge yarn but not a fluffy or fuzzy yarn. This type of yarn will not be able to trap the air and keep it warm against a person’s skin. In addition, the fuzzier and fluffier the yarn is, the more likely it is to absorb water. This tendency for fluffy and fuzzy yarn to absorb water can cause a lot of problems in cold winters because the scarf can cause frostbite and hypothermia if the wind kicks up, freezing the water trapped in the scarf.
